Needed for Internet Access

Well, maybe not the generator connected to this transfer switch……but an alternate Internet source! There was a fiber cut yesterday that seems to have taken out a very large area. Cable broadband was out for over 12 hours and even cellular broadband was very iffy. I would consider going back to a system I used years ago – except that in this area cellular data goes downhill when local land based Internet service goes down.

What I used to use was a Netgear based cellular hotspot with WAN and LAN ports. It could be set up to run off wired WAN when it was available and fail over to cellular 4G if land based WAN failed. As previously mentioned, cellular data around here (the Indianapolis, IN area) cannot be counted on when land Internet access goes down. I guess it will be time to go back to the good days and find local entertainment when the Interwebs can’t be reached! Satellite…… Still debating.

This post is most likely mercifully short if not simply a waste of time…..!

The picture is of a transfer switch for a generator where I used to be in charge of facilities. This was a facility in Virginia near the coast. Somewhere I have a video of it starting up as I happened to have my phone out documenting something when power failed. The day in question had severe storms from about 10AM until mid afternoon. Commercial power was out more than on and the generator ran just about the entire time until the storms moved out.
