Image Woes in Posts

Just so you know…I’m leaving this post in place in order to figure out why all of a sudden, I cannot display two images in a post. the empty square to the right below should be a photo that is not showing for some reason.

I attempted to add a gallery to a post. The gallery did fine, but there was a big empty square on top where the featured image should be. I published the attempt without the featured image, but the home page didn’t want to format correctly (symmetrically) without an image heading the post. It simply looked weird, nothing broke.

The idea was to add pictures to help illustrate an electronic project or something similar. No biggie, it will probably be better putting photos in the appropriate places in the posts, anyway. The pictures will have to be resized before posting to provide uniformity. I forget if changing column size automatically resizes a picture. Guess it will be tried below!

Good! It looks like the pictures scale nicely for the column widths! Getting text to flow around the picture will be the next step, if it can happen… I did play with this a little on the old host, but things didn’t format quite as expected. Width control there was difficult as you had to have the cursor exactly in a tiny zone to drag left or right to change the column width. Here, there is an entire column to the right that lets you adjust several parameters including the width ratio.

The picture (that should be – it comes and goes) to the right is one of several I took for another post (only needed one picture). I simply picked this at random since it was near the top of the list of pictures available to post.

As mentioned before, there will be a lot of experimenting to get things right. I think it is better to keep the successful experiments posted online, maybe a few documented failures for posterity. I’m also checking out a problem between the theme and a plugin or conflicting plugins that handle page formatting. Time will tell.

Testing a widget from a different source. As usual it looks good on the editing page. I’m also going to use widgets from the same source to see if that makes any difference.

Yes, this post will be disjointed!

The smaller transfer switch from a location I used to take care of.

This seems to work, at least in previewing prior to publishing. The widgets for block formatting are from the same source. The try above had widgets from a different source, even though they were supposed to be Gutenberg widgets. The page does have blocks from different sources, but in the latest trial the widgets and block are from the same source.

Funny, the widget for the picture I’m using this time has a lot more flexibility!
