I was losing images between selecting them and having them post. After trying to replace what seemed like corrupt files, I had a thought…..there was one more plugin with the optimization settings active for media, including pictures. Turning that feature off resulted in the pictures previously AWOL suddenly showing up! I’ll be honest, I might try another optimizing plugin just to speed picture loading up some.
Some plugins do their work right on the “home” server while others offload the work to a CDN (Content Delivery Network). The offending plugin I deactivated uses a CDN located somewhere on the planet (it was one of their bragging points!). It probably sets up a conflict with my big name CDN attached to my hosting. The unusual thing is that only some pictures are affected, and not in any order.
Here’s a random picture (maybe) to test my theory. This fellow was hanging out on my bug zapper one morning. There were a lot of fuzzy moths at my Virginia place. Not all got to have their picture taken. The pictures I did get may show up at random if I don’t go ahead and do a post dedicated to fuzzy moths under the Photography category.
So far, it looks good without any CDN and caching when I preview things. Hopefully it stays that way.

Back to originally scheduled randomness…. I apologize in advance for any posts that get broken, but I want to see what works and what doesn’t. They will be here for posterity, maybe getting deleted once things settle down. For now, this seems to be the best way to keep up with growing pains in setting up on a new host.
This installation of WordPress is very different from the installation on my old host. I did not do anything special or custom in either installation, just clicked the link on the host dashboard to begin the installation. Each host can customize the default installations to meet the needs of their targeted audience. I’m simply doing this site as a hobby, not to make money. This host targets businesses, so there were plenty of plugins already installed that I deleted. I don’t need search engine optimization or other features to draw in money.
Hopefully once the many false starts end, I can start posting things other than random ramblings like this (maybe I’ll have more chemotherapy meds flushed out, too!) that make it worthwhile looking in on the site. Once things get going, I hope to open comments, but I’m not ready right now to have them open.
So far, with more fluff deactivated and deleted, even simply making a new post is much less strain. The only surprises creating this post have been good ones.
Here’s a featured image on top showing Rubber up a tree! He got down fine and learned his lesson!
