Macro Testing – Plus

I’ve decided to complete a couple of things at the same time – play around with a new flash ring for my camera and polish up a well used and loved purse of my wife’s. The featured image actually uses the flash ring and a remote RF wireless flash. I might try to set up the same picture and take a picture with just the ring flash to compare the differences.

The pictures are taken with my D850 and 105 mm lens that does micro and macro. I forget the EXIF information. The ring flash is the Godox MF-R76N, and the remotes are also Godox, model V860IIIN. I also have a Godox V860IIN. The remote-only flash pictures used the Godox X3 wireless controller instead of using the ring flash as the master controller.

The thumbnails below open up to larger pictures. Hovering over the thumbnails will provide some captioning.

I took all pictures posted here hand holding the camera. I took a few of the purse on the floor, but they really didn’t add anything worthwhile for posting. Actually the low flash angles made mountains out of the least piece of dust on the floor! Below is an example after using Lightroom AI to remove most of it.

This project has expanded since the purse won’t simply polish up with one pass. It takes several light polishes followed with a buff using a microfiber cloth to remove surface polish that will rub off onto clothing, etc. and then doing another light polish followed by a microfiber buffing. When the surface retains most of the shine, then really shines again after brushing, that area is completed. Since I take plenty of breaks to do other things (play ham radio, work on an Arduino idea, etc), it is taking a while to get the entire purse done. To be honest, thanks to neuropathy from my chemo, the texture of the purse has helped to bring a bit of sensitivity to my fingertips, and the work has helped dexterity a lot!

It looks like she’s been hard on the purse – a gift from a loving family member, she has taken care of it….While I’m not saying the name of the purse, it seems to show wear and tear more easily than “normal” brands. she loves it and this is the second time I’ve spruced it back up.

I have to say it seems strange, but the texture helps my neuropathy.

Of course, I’m not finished playing with the ring flash and remotes!
