First Real Snow

My wife calls him “Mr. Squirrel”. So, I do too! He hit paydirt today in the snow. The latest bag of birdseed from Walmart contained peanuts in the shell…not good for use in bird feeders. So I picked what I could find out and tossed them under one of the hanging feeders.

The past three days provided us with about three to four inches of snow total here. It’s just enough to need to at least get tracks in the driveway so that delivery people can’t play lazy and claim that the driveway was not cleared. One did just that a couple of weeks ago when the snow really could be considered a heavy frost. The driveway had been used many times and was perfectly clear…not a bit of snow!

Here is a picture of some of the birds feasting this morning.

The more you look, the more birds you’ll find. Of course, Mr. Squirrel is chomping away. He’ll disappear for several days at a time. A tufted titmouse made a showing, but didn’t allow my any time to get a picture….my reflexes are too slow.

A nuthatch honored me the other day by staying on the feeder with the wire grid while I retrieved a couple of feeders for refilling. Normally, he flies away whenever anything moves, wherever….(!)

Hopefully there will be better posts coming that actually have something halfway worthwhile. The other night, another idea to improve an existing project monitoring the garage. I noticed that the ISM transmitter doesn’t like single digit temperatures. Plus it is made in the style of ugly construction with all its parts showing. The new version will be…. uhmmmm ….. OK ……. less ugly
