
August 14, 2003 Blackout

Note the lights above the point about 2/3 to the bottom. Compare them with their much reduced size in the same places in the bottom picture.

Note how the lighted areas are much smaller. The lighted area near the bottom is Richmond, Virginia. It was not affected by the blackout even though the area seems smaller. To the left of the picture, you can see some cloud cover still lighted by the setting sun. The bright area over lower-eastern West Virginia may also be some fairly high clouds still lighted by the sun.
