You Know summer is Ending When…
October 2nd, 2007 by Walt… The National Weather Service changes the color legend on their graphical forecast page! During the summer, the lowest temperature listed in the legend is 30°, and now they have dropped it to 10°. I am not anxious to see it updated to cover temperatures below 0.

For those not aware of what this site is, it is operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and contains a wealth of weather information. The deeper I explore, the more I find. They even show the water level of several hundred gauges around the country.
Starting last month, they fine tuned their warning areas. For example, if a hazardous storm was tracking across the northern part of a long county, there is no need to post a warning 40 or so miles away to the south part of the county. An example they gave when announcing the upcoming (then) change was the difference of putting maybe 100,000 people in several counties on alert when in actuality, only a thousand or so would be expected to be impacted. They don’t take chances, and still make sure areas near the warning area that is expecting trouble know that trouble is nearby.
